In 1958, Kusama moved to New York, had produced her first Infinity Net paintings for an exhibition at Brata Gallery from the 10th Street galleries in Manhattan, where many Post-Abstract expressionists gathered. Through this exhibition she presented 5 large-scaled paintings depicted looping image of tiny white arcs on the black canvas – this is the debut of her ground-breaking works first stunned the art world in 1959, which later called “Infinity Net” painting as repeating arcs images look like nets. These paintings have no margin or center and give the impression of extending without limit, that instantly impressing the likes of Donald Judd (1928-94) and other prominent artists and critics, igniting her whirlwind rise to prominence in the States. Kusama repeatedly produced the infinity net painting as her lifetime theme. The painting introducing here, is a very rare silver infinity nets depicted on the vivid pink on the ground. As the net motif is inextricably linked to the artist’s mental illness, was diagnosed with an obsessive-compulsive disorder after suffering from years of powerful hallucinations. Innovation and originality - much has already been said about the historical significance of Kusama’s infinity net paintings, is actually related to the Kusama’s repeating images of one object, often compares with the art trends in 1960s like Pop Art and Minimal Art that was also using the industrial repeat on their works. This silver nets paining shows the significant difference from the early monochrome works, highly evolved into the Neo-futuristic image with cool impression which certainly appears the eternity world like the universe.
