1943, Lee Kang-So was born in Daegu, Korea. In the beginning as an artist, he focused on avant-garde activities such as installing and performing performances, but later he started painting. 1983, he got Seoul International Biennial Print Exhibition Award. He has served as a visiting professor at University at Albany – State University of New York since 1985. He has dramatically increased his name recognition by taking the 3rd Lee In-Sung award in 2002 and became one of the leading artists of contemporary Korean art.
He neither take concreteness nor abstraction, he is aiming to not leave a clear image, but while drawing in free stroke, he never completely loses forms such as waterfowl and ship. Lively stroke by bold brush, and the conversation with fragment of the form drawn by fine brush, produces a mysterious impression with fluidity like a residual image of memory.
This work is a piece of his masterpiece from the “FROM AN ISLAND” series. His work feels the mountain range with hazy, which disappears when the image appears, and the clouds like clouds flying quickly in the wind give the viewer quiet reflection.
